In “The Chronicles of Iona: Exile” Paula de Fougerolles tells the story of the Scottish warrior and Irish monk, Aedan mac Gabran and St. Columba, who in the 6th century would band together to lay the foundation of the nation of Scotland. A tale of love and loss, sacrifice and faith, “The Chronicles of Iona: Exile”, the first in a series, is thrilling and epic historical fiction that draws on fantastic elements. To portray the early days of Scotland, de Fougerolles conjures a world fraught with blood feuds, treachery, dark gods and monsters, but also with miracles and valor. A medieval historian with a doctorate from Cambridge, and a recipient of the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, author de Fougerolles brings a vast amount of historical learning to her novel which brings to life the nation-building myths and stories of a past era.
