Best British Commonwealth Export (tie)

Australia and Scotland: represent! Down Under finally gets its due at KO Catering & Pies (87 A Street, South Boston, 617.269.4500), a nifty Southie spot that goes beyond its superb namesake meat pies (the Aussie equivalent of ballpark franks) to serve fine corn fritters, sandwiches, desserts, and more. Meanwhile in Hyde Square, The Haven (2 Perkins Street, Jamaica Plain, 617.524.2836) bobs alone as a beatific island of Scots hospitality amidst a sea of often-dubious Irish pubs, serving up oatcakes, haggis and neeps, smoked salmon, and more familiar gastropub fare with good draft Scottish ales. You knew the grateful ex-pats would flock here, but these charming packages fronted by nice-guy owners have won a deserved Yankee following, too.
