Whisky Wednesday – Aberfeldy 16 yr old

Aberfeldy is situated in the centre of Scotland and within the HIGHLAND designation for whisky, some five miles east of Loch Tay, it relies on the fresh water stream Pitilie Burn, which runs alongside the distillery. The area contains many landmarks amongst them the Kenmore Bridge, built by the 3rd Earl in 1774 and the view from it was the inspiration for Robert Burns’s poem on the chimney piece of the Kenmore Inn.
It is the largest malt whisky component of Dewar’s Blended Whisky.

Abefeldy distill the liquid in copper pots, handmade by the same family for over a century, then age it to perfection.
A light, pure single malt with heather honey and notes of pineapple, toffee and vanilla. With water, more honey appears plus a hint of apple.
Aberfeldy recently installed a wood burner to fire up the stills with green energy. One more reason why Aberfeldy tastes a little better.

The 16yr Old expression scored highly at the Whisky Trail tasting at The Haven up against stiff competition  6/18 gave it 5/5!

Whisky Wednesday-Ardbeg

For over 200 years, Ardbeg has been made on the small, remote Scottish Isle of Islay. Some people travel to Ardbeg along the winding road from Port Ellen. Others follow their nose, their destiny or the advice of a good friend. You can just come to The Haven and we’ll show you the way… 😉

Ardbeg has been called “as close to perfection as makes no difference,” by whisky connoisseurs. Proof then, that Ardbeg truly deserves its incredible reputation. It’s a whisky that’s worshipped around the world and has been named ‘World Whisky of the Year’ no less than 4 times out of the last 7 years…

Ardbeg Ten Years Old is revered around the world as the peatiest, smokiest, most complex single malt of them all. Yet it does not flaunt the peat; rather it gives way to the natural sweetness of the malt to produce a whisky of perfect balance. Named World Whisky of the Year in 2008.

Whisky Wednesday -Auchentoshan

The Haven now has a liquor license, cause for celebration indeed….

So we thought we would share our love for Scotch with you every Whisky Wednesday. Insights into the drinks we are now serving and tell you a bit about each distillery.

Starting with Auchentoshan, in the Lowland region, it’s the Glasgow Malt and one of three working distilleries producing single malt in the region.

Come in for a Dram of Auchentoshan.

THE THREE WOOD

This award-winning Auchentoshan has been matured in three different cask types.
From American Bourbon to Spanish Oloroso Sherry – and finally Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks – this is a rich, complex whisky with toffee and sherry flavours.
Three Wood makes a cracking Auchentoshan & Ale, a mean Old Fashioned and a damn fine dram.
